Chicken Heaven on Earth Petition
Petition to change local laws and ordinances that prevent people from owning backyard chickens and to pass a law protecting the rights of chickens used in food production which would require the birds to be treated humanely.
Please help us legalize urban chickens! Our goal is to encourage congress to change the laws and ordinances to make it legal for people to have chickens in their own yard that live inside city limits and to protect hens and male baby chicks abused in commercial egg production.
Benefits of raising urban Chickens:
1. Make great pets
2. Do not have to worry about getting salmonella from store bought eggs
3. Fresh eggs are better for you
4. Save cities thousands of dollars in waste management costs yearly
5. Eat Insects
5. Rodent control
6. High nitrogen manure is great for gardens and lawns very organic with no odor
7. Low maintenance
Benefits of Protecting hens used in commercial egg production
1. Free range hens produce healthier eggs
2. Have less chances for disease and sickness due to housing in small battery cages.
3. Birds used in food production would be treated humanely
4. Male baby chicks would be treated humanly
5. There would be no more battery cages, forced starving, abuse of hens and male chicks.
Please sign our petition to protect the rights of citizens who wish to raise backyard chickens and to protect the rights of birds and other animals used in food protection by treating them humanely.

I have spent my mornings watching my own flock and thinking about how much better their lives could be if these laws actually matched the reality of raising healthy birds. The stories you are sending me about your own experiences with these animals prove that we are fighting for common sense and compassion.

Seeing this much support for our feathered friends honestly blows me away. I started this because I know how much better life is with a backyard coop and now it feels like the city is finally waking up to that joy.

In your own home, if you can keep a dog or a cat, why not any tame animal ?? A bear or a lion, of coarse not. But a harmless chicken? It's your own property, you should have a right !!!
It is encouraging to see how backyard chickens are gaining ground across the nation. Sadly, I live in a narrow-minded community and ours is the last town in the vicinity to still not allow chickens :( I hope this helps!
Everyone should have the right to have backyard chickens, including a pet rooster who by the way, makes less noise than your neighbors lawn mower.
I believe that chickens and roosters should be allowed to be raised in city limits. People make more disruptive sounds than roosters. And people know better roosters don't.
Its fair and its right!
Do you have dogs and cats at home, what's the difference? If the animal is well cared for, what you do in your own house should be your own business !!!!

Everyone no matter where they live should have the right to raise their own chickens or to have one as a housepet. Chickens used in commercial egg and meat production should be treated humanely at all times. PERIOD.
