The village of Denton is a beautiful, peaceful spot, that is home to men, women and children of all ages, and a wide range of livestock and pets: it is also often an incredibly dangerous one, thanks to the delivery drivers, agricultural vehicles and 4x4s (and cars in general) that currently drive through it at ludicrous speeds.

As things stand, they're doing nothing illegal: while the children and animals of neighbouring Ben Rhydding and Ilkley enjoy the protection of an all-encompassing 20mph speed limit, and folk living in nearby Askwith benefit from a 30mph limit, Denton's narrow, windy roads are all currently subject to the national speed limit of 60mph.

We, the residents of Denton, ask that North Yorkshire County Council consider implementing a 30mph (or even, in the centre of the village, 20mph) speed limit throughout the village: we want to live in a place where people can ride horses, take their bikes out, and take their pets for walks freely and happily, without having to live in fear of a vehicle tearing round the corner at any given moment; and where we're not constantly surrounded by the remains of pet chickens, hedgehogs, and pheasants who weren't quite quick enough to dodge a flying - but, as things stand, perfectly legal - van or taxi.

Trying to turn out of the access roads or after the bridge is a nightmare with vehicles doing 60mph+, combined with pedestrians and cyclists, its a recipe for disaster. A lower limit and some enforcement is needed.

We have children who actively ride ponies, cycle and walk their animals on the roads in this village. We would love to see all drivers drive slower and more cautiously on the roads to keep our animals and children safe

Most of the area has no footpaths so cars need to be careful of people walking around there homes

There are currently no speed restrictions in Denton Village which is located on Denton Reserve Estate and is in a Conservation area especially highlighted by NYCC. There are regular occurrences of speeding by drivers living, visiting and working in the village. These include Courier Vans, Goods vehicles and Taxis. Many of the roads are single track and suitable only for slower careful driving & many of the residencies front straight onto the roads. It would be appropriate for a 20mph limit in the main residential areas of the village and 30mph elsewhere.

Church Row has garden gates that exit straight on to the road. Traffic travelling to the Hall have no regard for residents. A speed limit of 20 would make people more aware of pedestrians.

A 30mph speed limit in Denton is absolutely required given the narrow lanes and for the safety of vulnerable residents.
