The stretch of road from the entrance to Sutton Lane has an excessive speed limit.

The route is one of the most popular for cyclists in the area and with no fewer than 10 hidden entrances being used by residents, caravan users and agricultural vehicles the limit has to change for the safety of the residents, visitors and road users.

Sutton Lane has a dog-leg halfway up the stretch of road which means that the only way for people to 'maintain' the speed they carry in both directions is for them to drive up the centre of the road.

The loss of a life in 2013 is not something that should ever be repeated and it is evident that something needs to be done in order to prevent any further accidents occurring.

Initial attempts to request the change have fallen on deaf ears with automated responses being sent on both occasions from Derbyshire County Council, despite the support of our local MP, Heather Wheeler.

As residents we feel it is within our rights to request that something is done about what is already a serious issue and ask for your help in having our voices heard.

Thank you.

Updates

October 10, 2017

The responses from the council remain cold and automated despite everything we have shared. It is exhausting to keep pushing against this silence but the danger on this road does not go away just because they refuse to listen.

I live just off this road and have had to take evasive action on more than 1 occasion while walking my dog on Sutton Lane. The speeds being done are frightening and with young children living yards away from this road , something has to be done to reduce the speed now!!

As the owner of one and soon to be two businesses spanning the length of this section of the road, the speed at which people travel down it is completely unacceptable for both the safety of the visitors and the residents. There is no argument about this being a residential area and yet the main road (Derby Road) leading off Sutton Lane is limited to 40mph.

As the owner of the house that was crashed into which resulted in a fatality I can confirm the danger of such a high speed limit

People drive down this road as fast as possible. There are family homes on the road.

Too many motorist not driving with due car & attention in rural areas - reduce all speed limits. Supports environment & road safety - cars have seats, climate control & audio entertainment so what's the rush? (Drive 30k miles per year, cycle 3k miles & walk 500 miles - have a balanced view)

I use the road regulalry for cycling up to the Derby and ashbourne areas. People travel way to fast. It's narrow, hidden drive ways, cyclists and walkers. I've had numerous close calls as people drive too fast round corners. Try to overtake me as an oncoming car is approaching far too fast. I could go on. The loss of life that happened on that road is appalling and to get to the speeds required to drive straight inside somebodies house is hard to imagibe. How the family living there were not hurt is beyond me and it is only a metter of time before it happens again.
