Process servers are not the individuals involved in lawsuits. Instead, acting as officers of the courts, they are charged with a fairly dangerous job that entails the delivery of these documents to individuals, business, and governmental agencies. Unfortunately, some people blame them for simply bringing them the papers. Process servers have been shot at, maimed, stabbed, punched, and even killed. If someone got angry and shot a police officer or firefighter who was just trying to do his or her professional duties, that person would be prosecuted with a felony charge. Some states have already taken the steps to make assaulting a process server a felony, but all states need to do this. Much like teachers, police officers, and others, process servers are just trying to provide for themselves and their families. Given their especially dangerous profession, they need this extra legal protection like others have. This petition will be distributed to lawmakers around the nation, so please share it with everyone you know and ask them to sign it as well.
