Ongata Rongai - June 2017

To: The China Road and Rail Construction Company and the Kenya Railways

From: The Lemelepo Community

We, as aware citizens of the Republic of Kenya, Residents of the Lemelepo Community, bring to your notice a decision by your company to use the Rimpa – Ole Kasasi Road by your Construction Trucks on a new Standard gauge Railway Construction in Kandis Area. As learnt the construction is to bring development to our country and our community at large but this is causing darmage to our road.

We respectfully request the maintenance of the Rimpa Ole Kasasi Road that has been damaged and dilapidated by your construction Trucks. The Rimpa – Olekasasi Road was built to bitumen standards through the contribution of the Lemelepo Community Members. With the coming of the Rail Station, the Trucks have brought with them wanton destruction, causing havoc and road rage. The road has now developed big man/pot holes and its sides completely dilapidated by the trucks. The trucks are causing dust and air pollution that has become a danger and a great risk not only to our children, other road users but the larger community.

The maintenance of the road is entirely practicable and a public necessity. It needs to be maintained and built immediately. It will keep our families safe, and roads safe and our community cleaner.

We the Lemelepo Community Residents appreciate the development that the SGR is going to bring to our area, we also care for a well maintained road that will lessen not only the transportation of the material to the SGR site but also improve the livelihoods of the community at large.

The maintenance of the Rimpa – Olekasasi road should be constructed/recarpeted to highest bitumen standards from Rimpa to Ole Kasasi from as a matter of corporate social responsibility.

With above facts, we earnestly appeal for a positive consideration of our petition. With our names appended, we present this petition.

Seeing this grow has been a heavy experience given the state of the road outside my window. I am exhausted by the constant dust and the neglect of our infrastructure but knowing so many neighbors feel this frustration keeps me pushing forward.

I support the idea because this road is where our children use everyday to school. The school buses are finding it to pick our school going children due to the bad road.

This road had no potholes when I first came to Rimpa...The trucks are also driven inappropriately i.e. at high speed and in disregard to pedestrians.

The Chinese company (CRBC) doing the SGR from their site in Rangau has spoilt our Rimpa to Nazarene road. In addition the clouds of dust they raise is affecting the children who use that road/in schools in the area as well as the residents. We request for the tamarcking of the remaining section (Rimpa-Maasai lodge junction) to ease the negative effects.

The degradation of the Rimpa-Ole Kasasi road has been occasioned by the heavy Chinese trucks transporting construction materials to their site. It will be prudent for the to repair the road. The Chinese trucks reversed the recent grading of the road by KeRRA. We support construction of the SGR while at the same time asking for our road to be maintaned and the untamarcked 5km section be tamarcked.

The road was not designed for such volume of heavy trucks and now it's completely worn out. We need a remediation plan.

Consistent watering of the road in it's current condition will spare us the dust which is not only a health hazard but also an accident risk due to loss of visibility.

Was money allocated for this road, its become normal for public money to end up in private bank accounts.

Its long overdue. we need better roads connecting to Rangau and Kandisi especially with the SGR station. Access from Kwale stage is like an experiance from hell
