PETITION FOR THE URGENT REHABILITATION OF THE HARARE - CHIRUNDU HIGHWAY
To : The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development
We , the undersigned citizens, motorists and business stakeholders, draw the attention of the authorities to the following:
The Harare - Chirundu highway is a critical commercial artery for the Southern Africa region, yet it remains in a hazardous state. Severe rutting, deep potholes, lack of functional road markings, and narrow shoulders have led to a catastrophic rise in fatal accidents, vehicle damage and costly transit delays for cargo.
Therefore your petioners request that the Ministry take immediate action to :
1: Expedite Full Reconstruction :
Accelerate the dualization, widening, and resurfacing of the most degraded sections of the highway.
2: Implement Immediate Emergency Repairs : Deploy road maintenance teams to patch hazardous potholes and restore clear road markings before the next rainy season .
3/ Enhance Safety Measures : Install proper warning signage and strictly monitor heavy vehicle compliance to prevent further road degradation.
The road is a disgrace
And toll fees have been charged for 18 years
It’s affecting Kariba & Zambezi River
This is the Northern road into Africa

The road is absolutely dreadful. I would dearly love to take the Minister, in a Honda Fit, along that road so he really see how well the 2nd. REPUBLIC is doing.

For the benifit of Zimbabwe as a whole this highway needs urgent attention, it is the gateway to the rest of the region, the trade it is responsible for coming from South Africa to the other countries in the region is immense, not to mention how it has affected the tourism industry in Kariba and Chirundu.

What a travesty that a nationally vital infrastructure has been allowed to collapse, tangibly impacting on the the business & private sectors, revenue generation and economic well- being of numerous stockholders and investors.

Please rehabilitate this highway and ensure you adhere to human-centred design. This will ensure that it is safe for everyone, and any animal that has to navigate these terrifyingly high-speed spaces. Design for safety.
