Subject: Urgent Appeal for the Resumption and Completion of the Lower Mavhaire River Bridge Construction Project

Your Excellencies, Honourable Ministers, and Esteemed Leaders,

We, the concerned citizens, residents, and traditional leaders of the Shava and Greater Tangwena communities in Buhera District, hereby submit this formal petition to appeal for the urgent resumption and completion of the Lower Mavhaire River Bridge Construction project.

This critical infrastructure project was initiated in 2020, raising our hopes for an end to decades of isolation and hardship. Unfortunately, the project had to be paused due to financial limitations, which has left our communities still awaiting the much-needed improvements.

1. The Problem: Severe Isolation and Its Consequences

The absence of a bridge over the Mavhaire River, coupled with the barrier of the Gohonho range, completely cuts off the Shava area from Murambinda Town, the district's administrative and commercial hub. This isolation has severe and daily consequences:

  • Healthcare Crisis: Sick community members, including pregnant women and children, cannot efficiently access the Murambinda Hospital during the rainy season when the river is flooded. This can lead to perpetuation of preventable suffering and loss of life.
  • Educational Barriers: School children from Shava are unable to attend schools in Murambinda, limiting their educational opportunities and future prospects. Teachers are also reluctant to be deployed to Shava due to its inaccessibility. Primary school children to Neshava School from Mombeyarara experience many days of absentism in summer due to flooded river.
  • Economic Stagnation: Farmers cannot transport their produce to the main markets in Murambinda, leading to post-harvest losses and depressed incomes. Local businesses struggle to access supplies, and the cost of goods is inflated due to difficult transportation routes.
  • Limited Access to Services: Our communities are effectively denied access to government offices, banking services, and other essential public amenities located in Murambinda.

This isolation is a primary driver of the underdevelopment, poverty, and vulnerability we experience.

2. Our Request and Proposed Solution

We respectfully and urgently petition your offices to:

  1. Provide the required resources for the resumption of the Lower Mavhaire River Bridge construction Project so that there is a clear timeline for the remobilization of contractors to the site to complete this vital link.
  2. Provide a Formal Communication: We look forward to a formal address from the relevant offices articulating time framed stages that the project will undergo.
  3. Mobilize Additional Support: We propose that the government directs local mining companies and other corporate entities operating in Buhera North as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) to contribute to this and other projects, ensuring its swift and durable completion.

The completion of this bridge is not merely a construction project; it is an investment in human dignity, economic productivity, and the sustainable development of our communities. It will unlock the potential of thousands of citizens and integrate us fully into the socio-economic fabric of the district and the nation at large.

We place our trust in your leadership and look forward to your prompt and positive response. We are ready to cooperate in any way to see this project through to its successful completion.

Respectfully Yours,

The People of Shava and Mombeyarara area

I am very positive and support this ideal project as it connects many communities from Murambinda to Masocha and also when Mavhaire river is full flooded it makes pupils and elders to cross to the other side of the river on both ends . We have experienced transport problem to villages like Ushe Tuhwe Chinyanga to name just but a few unless one has to use Masocha / Chipodzana turn- off. Communal farmers in these areas are suffering in terms transport availability . Help us so that this project is successfully done . I thank you .

To the President of Zimbabwe through the Minister of Transport Mr Mhonha, please hear us the people of Buhera. This Murambinda Birchnough project started long ago during the time of MP Kumbirai Kangai and to date has not yet been finalised. We pled for your sympathy for Buhereans, please assist in completing this road project.

Please help build this bridge. I was born and raised in Ushe village. Access to our homestead is tortuous without this bridge. Please help. With due respect.
