Eighth grade students at Gruening Middle School are participating in Project Citizen, a national civics competition which teaches students how to create or change public policy. The issue that we selected is pedestrian safety. Ravenwood Elementary School students are crossing Eagle River Road and Wren Lane to get to school. There are about 5,000 cars that drive along that road per day, and the road is considered uncrossable as of right now, and is lacking lighting. While they are crossing there is high chance of the students getting hit especially in Alaska’s dark winter months. Our action plan is to install two standard light poles along the road. The cost is $16,000 per pole, and it will be an on-going cost of an estimate of $400 per year for maintenance.

Please help make this improvement to the road possible by signing this online petition. Thank you.
