Forest Park in Queens used to have them until recently when the Parks Department removed them.
For over 15 years bird feeders have been maintained in Forest Park with informal approval from NYC Parks Department staff. Informal approval is no longer enough, and the NYC Parks Department removed the feeders.
However, the NYC Parks Department have indicated their willingness to approve feeders provided they are placed and maintained according to their requirements, and that public interest is sufficient to warrant approval.

I've counted birds at the feeding station in Forest Park for 3 years during the Christmas Bird Count, and it's truly one of the most magical and exciting places for birding and bird photography.
Bird feeders are essential to helping birds get through a rough winter in an Urban environment. They are also very important teaching spots where new birders and children learn to spot and identify birds. Great outdoor science classrooms.
Since he was seven or eight, my son has loved to walk to the feeding station to watch the birds. He has learned to identify dozens of birds there. I have loved being there also.
Pure simple enjoyment for New York City residents and a strong attraction to visiting tourists who want to see the birds of New York City up close. OK some regulation is warranted so no problem there. But, outright prohibition is totally uncalled for.
A number of bird species have visited the Forest Park feeders in the past few winters. I counted 19 different species in just one hour this past January, including a seldom seen Pine Siskin. The feeders bring joy to birds, birders and non-birders alike.
Forest Park is a signature birding location in all of New York State - a literal oasis between concrete and asphalt. Please continue to support bird feeding stations in Forest Park, and keep this bastion for both humans and birds alike!

I have seen feeders up in Evodia Field, Central Park. I see no reason why Forest Park cannot do the same thing. Winter is coming, and the birds need this supplement in order to survive.
