The school board just approved the new recess policy so our children will finally get their daily time to play outside. I am deeply relieved that the days of withholding recess as punishment are coming to an end. We need to stay watchful to ensure these changes are put into …

We are seeking to implement a district wide recess policy throughout Lake Shore's Elementary Schools. It is our hope that a 20+ minute outdoor recess will be implemented daily for all children provided the temperature is above 32 degrees. During inclement weather, recess would be held indoors. Lastly, we strongly believe recess should not be withheld as a form of punishment. If you are a resident in the district please sign to show your support.

Seeing 250 names on this list feels incredible because it means so many others care about our kids getting real breaks during the day. My own children talk about longing for that time outside and I know this shift will change their school experience for the better.

Seeing one hundred people sign this confirms I am not alone in wanting my daughter to have time to play at school. This is a massive step forward for our schools.

Seeing this momentum grow reminds me of how much my own daughter misses her time to play and recharge during the school day. It is incredibly moving to realize how many of you feel that same urgency to protect these moments for our children.

My son Jaxson is 8yrs old and has adhd. He needs to let go of energy more than twice a week at school. I think this will help him greatly.

I know I am old school but when I was in 7th grade my teacher had us do about 10 minutes of excercise after lunch everyday. I learned more in that class than any others in grade school. It got our minds and bodies moving again

I especially want it not be withheld as a punishment. A child who gets in trouble during class probably could use some time outside or playing inside to use up some energy and be able to concentrate better!

Kids deserve time for recess. They get exercise, build social skills, and a nice break from being in class for 7+ hours. In most districts this is mandatory, so why does Lakeshore think it's not necessary?

Recess is an impotant and valuable social learning time as well as healthy for exercise and stress release. It should never be used as punishment..... when you have an active child and you remove the only appropriate time they have to be active and free then you are being part of the problem. Please incorporate daily recess in our childrens lives so they can grow to be a more well rounded adult.

That’s so sad. Same with my kids. I’m going to the next board meeting on the 20th to present the petition and would love to show more parent support if you can make it!

Children needs a proper recess to burn off pent up energy. This will allow them to be able to focus on their school work.
