Let's implement a district wide recess policy throughout Lancaster's Elementary Schools
We are seeking to implement a district wide recess policy throughout Lancaster's Elementary Schools. It is our hope that a 20+ minute outdoor recess will be implemented daily for all children provided the temperature is above 32 degrees. During inclement weather, recess would be held indoors. Lastly, we strongly believe recess should not be withheld as a form of punishment. If you are a Lancaster, NY resident please sign to show your support.

I believe in recess and more standing and movement with less sitting throughout the school day! More movement helps the kids to focus more, and sitting for several hours per day is detrimental to our health.
Exercise has been proven to increase blood flow to the brain! Let's do it right before math and science!!
Sitting at a desk all day can be stressful for most children. An added recess I feel with invigorate them and they will come back to class feeling refreshed and want to learn and enjoy the rest of their day. Lunch is not a recess break by no means.
Let's give our hard working children a well deserved brain break during their scheduled school day! Recess will get our kids interacting and become better communicators as well as giving them more physical activity away from the academic portion of the day!
It’s an opportunity for our kids to disengage from academic rigor, socialize, problem solve, run and play. Numerous child health experts including pediatricians, psychologists, neurologists, educational administrators all state that recess is a necessary break in the day for optimizing a child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
Play is crucial for learning.
Children need to play everyday!
