I have been hearing from so many stressed kids who just want one night to focus on costumes instead of chemistry tests and it really feels like the school board is totally missing the point of why holidays actually matter for our sanity. I am drafting up a formal email to the administration right now because they cannot just ignore us forever (although they are sure trying).

I am pagan and the day of Halloween is a religious holiday for me (Samhain) and seeing as most Christians get the day off to celebrate their main holidays, the same right to other religions is only fair
Halloween believe it or not does have a lot of cultural significance. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All Saints’ Day, incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and later Halloween. All Hallows' Eve was part of this festival and should be educated and celebrated among the masses because if we get off for Christmas and Thanksgiving why should we not then get off for a holiday of similar cultural significance? I already knew this topic but for extra backing I got my information from History.com
Halloween has been a recognized celebration for many centuries. It isn't merely a day to dress up in diverse costumes, or multitudes or colors. Halloween is an acclaimed holiday. Why not treat it as such?
It's on a Monday. This is many students last Halloween in high school. Enough said.

I think it's important for kids to enjoy holidays and not have to worry about school the entire holiday!
