WE STRONGLY OPPOSE SENATE BILL 1070 & HOUSE BILL 712.
THIS BILL SEEKS TO CREATE AN EXCLUSIONARY HAWAIIAN EDUCATIONAL ENTITY TO ADMINISTER AND CONTROL ALL ASPECTS OF HAWAIIAN EDUCATION AT ALL LEVELS (HAWAIIAN IMMERSION, HAWAIIAN MEDIUM, COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY) WITH NO COMMUNITY INPUT.
THIS BILL IGNORES THE VOICES OF OUR STUDENTS, PARENTS, SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES.
AS IT STANDS IT MANDATES ABSOLUTE GOVERNANCE WITHOUT THE KNOWLEDGE AND OR SUPPORT OF VAST MAJORITY OF ALL STAKEHOLDERS.
I have spent hours reading through your stories about how these bills would dismantle the work our communities have built over decades. Your experiences are the fuel for the letters I am drafting to keep this power grab from reaching our classrooms.

Seeing this level of support reminds me that our community will not sit idly by while our schools and students are pushed aside by these bills. The momentum we have built proves that the people who actually live this reality every day are finally being heard.

NO WAY. My kids are in immersion and we never heard a word about this bill until now. Stop trying to pass stuff behind our backs!

This is ridiculous. Why take the power away from the actual families who deal with these schools every day? Quit trying to silence us.
