We, the undersigned, wish to convey to the County Executive, members of the County Council, MCDOT Director Roshdieh, and the MTA our strongly held conviction that the modifications to the Wayne Avenue corridor as part of the implementation of the Purple Line should include dedicated left turn lanes at Dale Drive. We believe that eliminating all left turns at Dale Drive will only serve to “move the problem down the road” to Mansfield Road or “move the problem up the road” to Dartmouth Avenue.

I drive through this intersection every single day and the thought of losing those turn lanes keeps me up at night. People have been reaching out to tell me how these changes will wreck their morning commute and force dangerous detours into our quiet residential streets. We are currently scouting out council meetings where we can present these concerns directly to the people making the decisions.

Seeing this much support confirms that I am not the only one worried about these ridiculous traffic changes. People who drive this route every single day understand exactly why keeping that turn lane is vital for our neighborhood safety.

Wayne Avenue and Dale Drive are major roads and are designed to handle traffic as such. Local neighborhood roads are not, therefore it is important the Wayne/Dale intersection be designed to safely facilitate traffic flow on these roads, including by offering dedicated turn lanes with turn signals.
If left turn onto Dale from Wayne (heading into downtown SS) were prohibited, how would people on the following streets access their homes? Dale Dr. #100 thru 400, Bonifant, Queen Anne, Mc Neill, Deerfield, Fleetwood, Sheffield? We are talking about 400 to 500 homes on the West side of Wayne. Should all these people have to turn left on Mansfield to access their homes?
The left lanes are already established at the Dale intersection, and Dale is the only crossroad nearby with two lanes each way. Diverting traffic to Dartmouth or Mansfield will create safety issues due to the narrower lanes.
This is a very bad idea. Don't waste county money studying an option that has a benefit to families on Deerfield only.
This is not about child pedestrian safety, this is about raising property values on Deerfield. I have lived here since 1960, and I have seen these shenanigans before.
Safety of residents (and guests alike) should always be the main priority of policy makers. Redirecting traffic to Mansfield Rd. is not a safe alternative to properly designing and restructuring lanes on Wayne Ave. and should, therefore, not be implemented.
There are many small children who live on Mansfield and play on their lawns. With no sidewalks, and potential increased amount of traffic from Wayne, it'll be very dangerous and untenable for kids AND adults to be outside on Mansfield Road.

Mansfield road is a residential street where many houses do not have garages and parking overflows onto the street. In Winter, the street is very crowded with abandoned cards and snow piles puching into the right of way. We survive because we usually get one lane operable. even in non-snow months cars must zig and zag past parked vehicles and pedestrians. Any plan to permanently push traffic into Mansfield is a terrible idea and should not be studied as worthwhile. KEEP THE LEFT TURN LANE for the purple line on Wayne Avenue!
