This petition will be sent to:

Newfoundland Goverment:
Local MHA: Dwight Ball,
MP: Gerry Byrne,
Dept of Tourism,
Dept. of Transportation & Works,
Municipal Affairs,
NL Snowmobile Federation and anyone else that can help

All of which have already received a letter from me regarding the issue and reasoning behind it.

Reasons why this is important!

1. Safer route for Snowmobilers: keeping them of of the ice on Sandy Lake (big current causes ever changing ice conditions and open water)

2. The bridge is a connection between struggling communities. Increasing tourism and local business.

3. Leaving the bridge in place will save the province of Newfoundland money. The bridge will not have to be removed, the aggrigate on both sides will not have to be removed. The hydro lines will not have to be re-positioned again.

4. The bridge will connect 400 plus cottage owners and their familes to a trail system, increasing trail pass sales. It will also increase corporate sponsorship for local clubs that maintain the same trails.

5. The bridge will keep recreational vehicles and pedistrians out of vehicle traffic on the origional bride. ( directly beside and parrell to it.)

Updates

February 12, 2014

I have spent the last few days mapping out the trail connections to show the officials exactly how many families rely on this bridge for safe access. The silence from the department is frustrating but I am busy preparing a follow up packet that clarifies the safety risks of the ice on Sandy Lake.

February 12, 2014

Seeing this level of support for the Howley Road bridge confirms that our community understands the real safety risks of crossing Sandy Lake on the ice. This momentum proves that people want a permanent solution that keeps our families safe and supports the local trails we all rely on.

It will be more expensive to remove bridge and provide signage then leave the bridge. ATV's and Snowmobiles flood cash into our local economy. Leave the bridge in place and support volunteers that maintain trails and keep them safe.

Major safety issue would be taken care of by leaving this temporary bridge in place.

if this bridge can give recreational vehicle users and cottage owners a safer route it would make sense to keep the bridge there

This would be a big boost ,not only to the ski -do and A.T.V trail but also to the tourism sector. We have one of the best outdoor playgrounds in Canada. We have miles and miles of the best ski-dooing country in the world. Leaving this bridge would not only benefit this particular area but would be a benefit to everyone that comes to And from NL . for that purpose.

This plan only makes sense for not just this area but the entire tourism industry. Tourists don't just ride in RV's they also ride ATV's and Snowmobiles
