La Costa Oaks HOA - Petition to Cease Landscape Changes

Over the past several years the leadership of our HOA has been gradually altering the beautiful original common area landscape plan of the community, supposedly to reduce irrigation costs. Their projects have used plantings we the undersigned deem inappropriate such as an increasing volume of desert cactus, and spot use of roses not normally used in large scale common areas. The use of cactus and odd plant mixes at our entries defeats the upscale natural look of the original landscape plan produced by a professional landscape architect.
The HOA has now taken to removing healthy landscaping in medians along Camino Junipero in the form of the clump grass, replacing it with what appears to be an odd combination of cactus, iceplant and lantana, among other species. The result is the consistent beauty of driving down this main street is gone, replaced by this hodge-podge collection of plants which likely will never provide the coverage or look previously enjoyed. While these projects may reduce irrigation bills, they are costing us far too much in community atmoshpere and aesthetic. This is a community of million dollar plus homes, and homeowners bought here expecting these expenses and expecting the common area plan to be maintained, not destroyed.
Therefore, we the undersigned call upon the Board to immediately cease further destruction of the original landscape plan, cease installing these poor aesthetic plant choices such as cactus and roses, and at minimum to start relocating the cactus where the original plans placed them: the slope areas. We the undersigned oppose implementation of an Arizona aesthetic for our community.
