Dear Board of Education:
We, the community of Cortez, Montezuma County,and supporters of the Montessori education respectfully request that the Children’s Kiva Elementary and Middle Charter School be allowed to continue, at the very least until the end of the 2018-2019 school year.
The Kiva E/MS Charter should be afforded the same TIME and opportunity as other struggling Re-1District schools in an effort to improve their performance and increase enrollment.
School choice is invaluable in a rural community. Charter schools provide environments and resources that are often not available in typical district schools.

The Children’s Kiva was an integral part of my successful education in Montezuma county. The school has served children with dedication and passion and could be an asset to a community that needs it. Please consider how to strengthen rather than dismantle this place - it will be a far more powerful legacy to leave.
Over the long term, Montessori education in Montezuma County has shown itself able to produce above-average academic results as well as outstanding young citizens. We all, including RE-1 admin and board, need to support CKMS and promote it during these bumpy times.
The current school leadership inherited the fallout from bad leadership and bad decisions last year. Please give the new leadership and the strong Montessori community a chance to rebuild the strong program they had in the past.
Closing a school mid-year is extremely disruptive to students in particular. If the school must be closed, at the very least students and staff should have the time to effectively transition.
The kiva has been critical in my daughters life. We have been in the Montessori family for 7 years, I've watched her grow and mature into an absolutely awesome young lady and I attribute much of that to this style of education. I think it would be an absolute tragedy to lose this school

The Kiva Montessori Charter school has benefit many students in our community. My son was struggling in the traditional classroom setting UNTIL I transferred him into the Montessori classroom. His teachers met him at his level of learning and this continued throughout his elementary career. Had it not been for these amazing, highly qualified teachers my son may have never succeeded. Every child deserves the chance to learn and exceed in an environment that fits their learning style, this is what the Kiva provides. Every child is NOT traditional and our learning institutes should not ALL be traditional either. Please keep the Kiva Montessori School open!!!!
