We, the residents of the Kingston Apartment complex located at 7480 Birdwood Avenue, McLean, VA 22102, considering recent criminal events in the immediate area and within the complex, petition and request the following elevated safety standards be adapted by the building management immediately.
1. The Kingston become a 24-hour Security Building.
2. An actual “Security” person be seated at the front desk to help verify
that all entering the building are ether residents, guests of residents or have advance authorization to enter the building.
3. The installation of fully functioning Security Video Cameras covering every hallway of every floor.
4. The installation of fully functioning Security Video Cameras on all parking floors.
5. The installation of fully functioning Security Video Cameras in the stairwells.
6. The installation of fully functioning Security Video Cameras covering all outside entrances to the building, the walkways surrounding and in front of the building including all building entrances and the garage door.
7. All “Food Deliveries” be left at the front desk.
8. All “Item Deliveries”, be left in the “Mail Room”.
9. All Building Rules and Regulations pertaining to “NO Smoking” of any substances in the building be strictly endorsed with an “Established Protocol.
10. Restrict the entry to the elevators via “Fob” controlled entry.
11. “Fob” controlled elevators.
12. Better/brighter lighting on all floors of the garage.
13. The Front Door should not be left “unlocked” at night.
14. The P-1 stairwell cage needs to be fixed.
15. The cracked glass in the West Tower P-! elevator room should be fixed.
16. First Floor Back Entrance - Someone is putting towels in the door to keep them from closing completely!
17. Dog owners are responsible for and must pick up their dog’s poop – outside the building entrance as well as the “island” and planters in front of the building, in the fields across the street and the side “Dog wash” entrance door.
18. Residents must be notified of any criminal activity in the building in a timely and transparent manner

I have spent the last few days showing the management team the list of people backing these safety changes despite their hesitation to listen. Seeing the growing list of neighbors who feel just as unsafe as I do keeps me pushing forward when they try to ignore us.

Seeing this level of support confirms that my neighbors feel just as vulnerable and frustrated as I do. We have finally built the momentum needed to force building management to actually listen to our demands for a safer home.

With crime rising in the area, we need a secure building, 24 hour security and cameras in hallways, parking lot, and outside the building
Too many people just wandering into the lobby lately. My wife doesnt feel safe walking from the garage at night anymore. We need someone at the desk 24/7.
No smoke even in your room please. The smoke travels!!!!

I'd be happy with a partial fulfillment of what is asked in this petition, so long as the overall security of our residence has been brought to an acceptable and sustainable level. I'm happy to consult for how this can be implemented.
