Despite overwhelming opposition to Great Day Family Childcare's application for a Special Use Permit to operate a Childcare Business at the Dangerous Harney Road Intersection in the Town of Eastchester, the applicant is back again attempting yet another end run around the neighbors and the town's permitting process.

For all the reasons set forth in the prior online petition and for the reasons set forth in numerous letters of opposition received by the town, we STRONGLY OPPOSE the reckless proposal to operate a childcare facility at 32 Harney Road.

Great Day Family Childcare's new request, which is calendared to be heard by the Town of Eastchester Planning Board on Thursday, October 23, 2025, not only demonstrates a callous disregard for the Green Knolls neighborhood, but for the health & safety of children and toddlers whose enrollment this New Rochelle business is attempting to induce.

Please show your Support for our Neighborhood & Act now by:

  • Signing this online petition for residents of Green Knolls / Greenvale;
  • Submitting Written Opposition to the Town (via email) no later than 3PM on Wed. Oct 22, 2025 and by
  • Attending the Planning Board Meeting at Town Hall at 7PM on Thursday, October 23, 2025 to express your Opposition to this Reckless Proposal.

The petition will be filed with the Eastchester Planning Board.

Please show your objection by attending this important meeting:

  • Thursday, October 23, 2025, 7pm at Eastchester Town Hall, 40 Mill Road, Eastchester, NY

Thank you!

This is a residential community with no other commercial properties. The neighborhood and this particular intersection is not zoned appropriately for a daycare. There are plenty of alternative options for daycare within walking distance to this location.

I am a resident of Scarsdale Avenue. Our neighborhood is residential - not commercial. This business is not looking to be part of the Green Knolls/Greenvale neighborhood. As it is, drivers from outside the neighborhood use Downer Avenue as a cut-thru. Adding a business in that location will only compound the problem.

Any potential for increased traffic in an already extremely dangerous intersection that is used as a cut thru in addition to commuters both walking and driving should be denied. This is a danger to children, parents not to mention residents of green knolls.

Our community has overwhelmingly opposed the use of the premises as a daycare facility with clear-headed objections to the safety of young children.In addition, outdoor play areas have not been altered to assure safety for youngsters. We urge the Board to deny the applicant their appeal.

this is unsafe. One misstep and a car can easily plow into the front yard. Who will police the “interim” Nature of this daycare? Those applying have time and again attempted to circumvent the rules of the town. Please shut this down once and for all. The location is simply in appropriate for a day care business.

I strongly oppose this proposal. There were very compelling arguments made against it at the last town board meeting when the original proposal was considered, as a result of which, the proposal was rejected at that time. I sincerely hope the town board will keep that prior experience in mind when re-considering this updated proposal. Thank you.

Harney Road is already a dangerous intersection, and adding a childcare facility here would endanger both neighborhood residents and the children. Please prioritize community safety and reject this application.
