The Maryland Multicultural Youth Center (MMYC) is a free resource in Montgomery County, Maryland, which offers in- and out-of-school youth ages 16-24 a variety of academic, workforce and wrap-around services. As a department of the Latin American Youth Center (LAYC), MMYC provides youth a space where young people can enroll in GED classes, receive intensive case management, learn job readiness skills, get involved in training and certification programs, engage in internships and take an active role in giving back to their community. Unfortunately, after ten years of providing these services, MMYC was not awarded federal funding for the next fiscal year which has put it at risk of not serving the population they have been working with, potentially impacting hundreds of youth in the Montgomery County area.
For the past ten years, MMYC has been the primary resource in the county offering services to out-of-school youth in this age group. Without the GED classes, the personalized case management, the Mental Health counseling, and all the many workforce opportunities, there will inevitably be many youth in Montgomery County who fall through the cracks.

I just blinked and saw 500 signatures on the screen which is just surreal because I honestly thought this would be shouting into the void for a while. Seeing so many people actually care about the center and what happens to these kids makes me feel like maybe there is a real chance to turn this whole thing around even if the paperwork headache is still looming over me.

I checked the total and we are just hovering under the five hundred mark which is actually kind of wild to think about honestly. If you really care about these kids and the GED programs please find a way to get this link in front of one person you know who lives in the county because the people deciding this funding are definitely keeping an eye on our progress right now.

I was just checking the counter and we are hovering right near that hundred mark which is honestly wild because what does that even mean in the grand scheme of a budget cut but it feels like something real. If you could grab the link and toss it into a group chat or onto your wall right now it would give us that final nudge we need to show the county board that we are actually paying attention to what happens here.

As a Latina doctoral student in a counseling psychology program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, who fights for social justice and serving underserved populations it would be a disservice to not fund MMYC. It is a center thats dedicated to empower youth and advocates for their community.
As a Latino, DACAmented resident living in Bethesda and alumnus of American University, I recognize the importance of organizations like MMYC in this area. We need to provide them with more funding, not less!
For profit institutions do not have eyes and ears on the ground locally to provide quality services to those that currently rely on MMYC. Please don't privatize these services, keep them public to organizations that are locally accountable.
I worked with MMYC and the Adelante Program to provide bilingual tutoring for high school students, along with a dedicated group of tutors. MMYC does incredible work and makes a serious difference in many young people's lives. They need to be supported!
I was in the first cohert and I can't explain how much MMYC guided me through the end and now I still go back because att he end they're making an impact that is IRREPLACEABLE
Keep the organization running!
Without mmyc most of us youths wouldn't get a chance to have one more chance to make a change and make life different we need this.

Please dont shut down LAYC... Being there chamged my life.... Never have I felt someome truly cared. Never have i had motivation like the motivation they gave me to do better. If there was a MMYC in Baltimore Id immediately go back. MMYC MATTERS AND IS TRULY A BLESSING.
