Marae based courses such as these have been clearing up the failures of mainstream NZ educational institutions for decades. Removing the meagre funding these types of courses operate with is done to the detriment of the communities that they serve. Instead the government really ought to be getting behind these types of providers who have a proven track in successfully reaching out to the "hard to reach" kids who all just need the right support to become successful members of our communities. Kia kaha Orongomai Marae.
Not every child comes out of College with credits or qualifications. This Course has been there for those young people. Orongomai has always been there for the people young and old. These Courses always had positive outcomes for young people that needed it. Without this Course you are setting more young people up to fail because of their lack of skills.

I think this course should stay running specifically because it is for teen education. Some people go to that course because they might not have worked so well at school or had trouble getting on with others. But I know people at this course and they are doing so much better then they were before they came, and if it gets taken away, what chance do they get of getting more help for the future
I am signing as education is extremely important.

To take away this course is to take away the positive experiences, future opportunities and education for rangatahi (youth) who have difficulty engaging in mainstream education. Orongomai Marae provides a holistic approach to education and an inclusive environment steeped in Te Ao Maori. The youth are our future, and if we cannot provide an opportunity to education and employment for our youth, what will our future look like? Nga mihi nunui ki a koutou katoa! Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui. Tihei mauri ora.
