We understand that with the closure of the Barclays Bank branch in Upper Ham Road on June 27th that the cashpoint machine will also be removed.
We call upon Barclays to reconsider and keep the cashpoint open.

I really can't see the point in this petition although I have signed it. All it will do is to send a message to Barclays to the effect that all that is wanted is a cashpoint, and we are not concerned about closure of the branch. In my view, this should have been a 'last stand' manouevre when all else had failed. I'm sure that Barclays will be more than happy to keep a cashpoint going, thus showing that they do listen to people. And close the branch, anyway. Very sad.
It's highly regrettable that Barclays Bank Branch on Ham Parade is scheduled for closure. However, I fail to see that they automatically need to remove the cashpoint down there, or on the Tesco Parade. Ham and Petersham are home to a not unsubstantial number of residents and really might expect an increase of these type of services, rather than having them totally removed!
This branch is busy, both for local residents in Ham and Petersham and North Kingston. It is vitally important for the local shopkeepers who can pop quickly into the Bank for cash for change or can bring in dollops of cash rather than have it on their premises . It certainly is impossible for them to shut down during working hours to try and get into Kingston where they can face long cues of customers. And Ham Parade is another vital place for tradespeople, plumbers, builders, electricians, etc, who can quickly park their van and use the Bank, and get their sandwich and drink for lunch or tea. Please consider how dreadful it will be for the shops on Ham Parade who provide such a vital service to the community , for them to be forced into an impossible banking situation.
There was once a "Nearest Branch Notice" which would involved customers swimming the River Thames; It shows how little this greedy bank has for customers. Loss of this valued facility will incur long and frustrating delays into Richmond or Kingston, at all times of the year and expose them to relaxes exposure to competition,
It is disgusting that they are closing this branch, which is often extremely busy. They surely make enough profit to keep this local facility going? What excuse can they give? Yet another example of how big business is destroying local communities. Adding insult to injury - telling us that their internet and telephone services are functioning. How handy for traders who want to cash in actual money, and for the rest of us who want to deal with actual people who provide a personal service. Shame on you.
Ham is a densely populated yet geographically isolated community . The shops and facilities at St Richards' square are vital to its survival and well being . The removal of our only free cashpoint would disadvantage us a community hugely . We are more than a mile away to the nearest bank and cash point - if our local cash point is removed that means too long a walk for many or 2 bus rides at a cost of 2.90 for those not lucky enough to have access to a car . Come on Barclays - Tesco have risen to the challenge by investing in the fabric and stock of our local branch to improve it massively,and even the Post Office have accepted that we need a branch in the heart of Ham to meet the needs of the local population- do your bit to support the local community -surely you've made enough profit for that?

I told Surrey Comet about all this - they have spoken to Barclays who told them branch will definitely close, to be replaced by a Sainsburys which will have a cashpoint. So it was all a 'done deal'. Probably the end of Ham Parade as we know it.
