The proposed closure of the North Shields branch of Barclay's Bank will cause much inconvenience to the bank's customers and will also deprive the town of an amenity which it has enjoyed for many years.
In recent times three other banks have closed their branches in the town, and if the Barclay's closure goes ahead the town will be left with only two banks.
In addition the town centre is about to be redeveloped which aims to attract new businesses, thereby giving the local economy a much-needed boost. The proposed closure would go against this plan.
We the undersigned urge Barclay's to reconsider their decision, and to keep their North Shields branch open.

The silence from the bank remains frustrating but it only confirms that they are ignoring the damage this closure does to our town center. I am exhausted by the constant uphill battle against these corporate decisions yet I refuse to let them write off our community without a fight.

Reaching this milestone feels heavy because it shows how many of us are being ignored by the bank. My energy is drained but seeing this momentum confirms that we are not wrong to push back against the loss of our town center.

I have been with Barclays Bank for about 50 years now and feel completely let down by the closure.I am 71 yrs old and don’t drive, so will definitely have to change my bank if it does close.I can’t believe that it was so quiet it needs to close down
A taxi fare from north shields is £13.00 one way would be the same reverse at to days rates, plus the standing time to add on for lights and joining the present volume of town traffic.
It shows no confidence in North Shields & is a slap in the face for all those regular customers who queue (!) to use their services.
I think it should stay open there going to be nothing to come into North Shields for if you close the bank . Whitley bay has very Little parking spaces
we all need this bank the business is there for public and commercial use.our local economy needs protection for all.
Absolute disgrace closing my branch bank I feel for the elderly who will have difficulties, coping with the upheaval of going online. I don't want to be forced either to make this decision and go online. A lot of elderly people don't own smartphones or computers and I think barclays will lose a lot of customers as a result. Its just another way of forcing people into a cashless society
This bank is used by a lot of elderly people and businesses it would be a shame to close it

Yet another proposed bank closure for North Shields town centre. The excuse of decreasing numbers due to online banking will no doubt be used again, but this is not a true reflection as this branch is always busy! I also feel for the staff who will no doubt lose their jobs.
