To the City Council,

We, the undersigned residents of Edison, NJ, are writing to express our strong support for keeping the crossing guard job Patty at Jamaica st and Monroe ave.

The crossing guard at this intersection has been a valuable asset to our community for many years. She has helped to keep our children safe as they walk to and from school, and have also helped to make our neighborhood a more welcoming place for all residents.

We are concerned that the proposed elimination of this crossing guard position would put our children and other pedestrians at risk. The intersection at Jamaica st and Monroe ave is a busy one, and there is a high volume of traffic. Without Patty, it would be very difficult for children to cross the street safely. She hardly ever takes off from her duty and takes her job very seriously.
Recently she took a day off and was substituted by a police officer, all the streets connecting Menlo Park School to Grove ave were jammed.Grove ave was backed up till There were also couple of accidents that day.

We believe that the cost of keeping this crossing guard position is a small price to pay for the safety of our children and our community. We urge you to reconsider the proposed elimination of this position and to keep the crossing guard at Jamica St and Monroe Ave.

Thank you for your time and consideration

Patty is wonderful member of our Menlo Park School community. She makes the morning drop offs and afternoon pickups safe and easy for both kids and parents!!

Please do not outsource Patty's job. She understands the traffic pattern at Menlo and always prioritizes pedestrian safety. She is as important as the security guard at the school. Whenever she goes on leave and another crossing guard takes over, the school starts at least 10 min late.

Patty is the most sincere crossing guard that I have ever known! Literally be it rain, shine, snow, storm. She's always there! Very dedicated and proficient in her work. I hope she comes back every year.

She keeps the traffic flow and maintain the safe environment for crossing. Even Cop can’t do this job so smoothly. She should be credited for her work.
