Started by Concern Chatsworth Parents 4 years, 3 months ago

We are turning to you as Traffic Commissioner in Larchmont, New York. The Village of Larchmont has always partnered with the community to protect the lives of its citizens. Chatsworth Avenue School is an elementary school for boys and girls ages 4 to 12, located on Chatsworth Ave. Every morning and afternoon there are hundreds of children being dropped off, picked up, walking, biking to and from the school. We, the Parents of the children attending Chatsworth, are extremely concerned for the safety of our children.

Forest Park Ave is a residential street and the main entrance of the school. There are so many close calls with cars parking illegally, parking in the crosswalks, vehicles not stopping as children attempt to cross to and from school. We fear that it is only a matter of time before there is a serious incident.

We implore you to request the addition of an School Crossing Guard for the safety of our children. School crossing guards are found at most schools throughout the state– We are asking for a crossing guard to be present at the front of Chatsworth Ave School on Forest PArk Ave, during pick up and drop off. All parents should be able to send their children to school without the concern of their children reaching school safely.

We thank you in advance for your consideration of this matter – as well as for all that the Village of Larchmont does on a daily basis to keep our children and community safe.

The momentum behind this petition is undeniable and the Traffic Commissioner can no longer pretend we are just a few worried parents. Our neighborhood is fed up with the dangerous neglect at Forest Park Avenue and we are only getting louder.

While municipal budget cuts post covid may be necessary, in this regard I fully support safety for our children over considerations of economy.

A necessary place to have a crossing guard with so much traffic and so many kids coming to school in the morning/afternoon

I would also ask that two “yield to pedestrians” signs be placed at either end of the crosswalk.

We love living in a walking community. Let’s keep it safe for the kids to walk to school!

This is very important!! At my children's school last year (in California), a child was hit by a car walking to school -- right on the corner of the school's playground. The child had injuries, but was OK. Thank you for considering this!

This is a critical crossing point for children - leading to both the front door of the school and the accessibility ramp. A crossing guard here would make a huge & important difference to everyone - pedestrians, cyclists & drivers.
