Started by North Severna Park Community Association 6 years, 8 months ago

Dear friends of North Severna Park,

For 64 years the North Severna Park Pool at 2 Marbury Rd has served our community as a space for lasting memories. Every summer, the pool is humming with families swimming, celebrating, playing volleyball, and enjoying special events. We are fortunate to have members who contribute their time, items, or monetary donations to help improve our pool and make it an enjoyable place to spend the summer. The 2019 season was one of our best yet. We added 21 new members, and thanks to several fundraisers - Kid Olympics, the Snack Shack, Chick fil A delivery, advertisements, swim lessons, and the Severn School pool rental - we had a record year for revenue from the pool. We thank everyone who has contributed to this success!

However, this fall we received some bad news: the main pool has a leak in the main drain and the baby pool is damaged beyond repair. Both pools contain the original shell and plumbing (1955) and require complete renovations to continue. The cost of these renovations far exceeds our current fund balance. The North Severna Park Community met recently to discuss possible solutions. By the end of the meeting, an incredibly generous family offered to provide an interest-free loan for 10 years to fund the pool renovation projects. In order to receive this loan, we need to demonstrate the widespread support of the community for renovation of the pools.

If you would like to support the renovation of the North Severna Park Pool, please sign this petition. Please spread the word to others as well. Letters of support stating why you value the pool and think it should stay open would be incredibly helpful as well.

Once we receive enough signatures of support, our pool management company will begin the process to renovate both pools. We are running a capital campaign to raise more than $175,000 vital for continued operations and to help pay back the loan. We'll follow up with ways you you can donate, volunteer, and/or spread the word in the community.

Please sign this petition by Friday, December 13 to keep the NSP Pool open!
And thank you as always for your support.

The momentum we have generated proves that this community is ready to save our pool. Post this link on your Facebook page today and text the petition to three pool neighbors. We have to show the board that we are ready to back this renovation.

PLEASE do what it takes to keep this pool open! Personally, it’s the ONLY down time I have and the only time I relax, read books, and make new friends. I love everything about this pool (well, except for the ants, and they can be managed), and do NOT want to see it close!! I need it/you!!

Without question, the North Severna Park pool is a valuable asset for all of us. The sound of the laughter and chatter of happy children that routinely comes from the pool is proof of that. Good neighbors have always been the best part of living in North Severna Park. Providing the means to save our community pool shows me what little I knew about how good a neighbor could be.

I belonged as a small child and have great memories there. I also know it in option for the community to use as you can join as an outside resident. I would hate to see another community staple disappear. Severna Park needs to hold on to these landmarks.

This was our first year at the pool. It was such a great experience! We met so many new families. Everyone was so friendly!! It would be so sad to the pool close.

My husband and his family were members when he was a child. He has fond memories. Now that we have kids of our own and live in the community, we have throughly enjoyed creating new memories with our own family. It’s such a positive environment for all of us. As a mother, I am grateful to have a place to come where we all can relax, unwind and have some fun.
