the district decided to keep the extended day program at green valley. im so happy we could pull this off together and keep the extra hours for our kids.

Final supporters
The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is planning to cut the extended day Kindergarten at Green Valley to align with the shorter AM/PM programs at most elementary schools in the district.

Just a few years ago, Green Valley (and a few other schools) opted to extend kindergarten 45-60 mins each day. More instructional time can only benefit our children. Green Valley appears to have classroom space to continue it.
There is a window of opportunity to persuade SRVUSD to let Green Valley keep an extended day Kindergarten program.

My older daughter at our old school had the shorter day kinder. We moved to Diablo in May and my 2nd daughter is in kinder at GV and what a difference the extended day is. We love it and really see the difference. My son will be in kinder in 2015 and I hope he is able to have the longer day kinder experience. It is wonderful and GV has such a great program and amazing teachers!!!
My children are both past the kindergarten age but having one that had a short day (afternoon k) and the other that enjoyed the extended day, I will say hands down the extended day was much preferred. They both had the same teacher so it really was just about having that extra classroom time. By this age. many students country wide already enjoy a longer day than those in SRVUSD and it seems if Green Valley has the option to offer any extended kindergarten, it should be encouraged. I do understand that not all schools in the district have this option due to overcrowding but I believe we have willing teachers and a lower number of incoming students so I really hope the extended day continues at Green Valley.
If our revered and respected Kindergarten educators at Green Valley felt that the best teaching model included an extended day, how can the District justify disregarding their wisdom? Taking away future Green Valley kindergartener's extended day does not seem like a decision made with students as the priority. It seems like a decision for the adults in charge not the students who have no voice.
We have the facilities at GV, can only benefit our kids, so cutting back to make all school the same is not a good reason. Local Control should be really local.

We are new to the district this year. We moved from a school which used to have a short day for Kindergarten but then moved to a full day kindergarten. My two older children did the full day Kindergarten and did just fine and learned so much. The school is very happy with this move and said that they see the children having gone through Kindergarten full day perform better and are more ready for the full day schedule once they begin First grade. Also, the teachers have more time to cover more material. It is a Win, Win, Win, situation for kids, parents and Teachers!
