Apollo is not only the Greek God of music and poetry, it Is a neglected building that sits on a hilltop looking over downtown Burlington, Iowa. It has always been a place for the youth to go, to learn, to achieve. But now the history of the Apollo School, Burlington's historic high school, is being threatened by low - income housing.
In order to save the school, to restore it to its former glory, in order for the youth of Burlington and surrounding communities to continue to be inspired by art, in all its forms, let's stand together to help rebuild Apollo into the Apollo School of The Arts.
The Apollo School of The arts Mission is to introduce, educate and inspire students in the fine and performing arts, to provide the platform for students to collaborate on projects of a much larger scale, and to help guide them on their desired career path.
The school would offer preschool and adult classes as well.
Let's put a stop to tearing down historic buildings or turning them into low - income housing projects that will only threaten the neighborhood around them. Let's save Apollo for all future generations to enjoy!

The city officials are still ignoring our requests for a meeting regarding the Apollo building. Send an email to your local representative today and demand they preserve our history as a center for the arts instead of clearing the site for housing.

Will always be BHS to me. Too grand of a building to tear down. I would pay to walk through it!!! Maybe money could be raised that way.
This historic building in Burlington should be saved! An art center would be perfect, but not sure about the name 'apollo'..that name was only used for a very short time. This former high school and junior college building has so much potential yet!!!
As a person who grew up in Burlington and attended Apollo school. Hasn't Burlington officials' tore down enough historical sights. Let's do something that will improve our kids and the community. Haven't we gave enough for low rent housing. This could bring a few jobs for teachers and school workers.
I hope this building can be saved. A school for the arts would be wonderful for it!
My cousin Stephanie has a dream to turn the old Apollo high school into a school of the arts. I believe in her and I believe in her dream! My family is from Burlington. I spent a lot of time traveling to Burlington my entire life. As soon as I see the bridge to cross over that river, I feel like i am coming home. My husband and I plan on moving there within the next few years, so I feel it is my duty to support the community!
