We, members in good standing of AFSCME Local 2401 hereby express our concerns about ongoing attacks against our Union and our rights as employees by the D.C. Government through reductions in force, reorganizations and realignments. Our Local has suffered attacks at Health Care Finance, CSSR, CFSA, and OCP. Each month, our 1500+ members pay $35.18 in Union dues. District Council 20 gets 60% of these dues, or more than $21 . We have requested District 20 to help to defend these attacks against us, but its leadership has refused to financially support our members in arbitrations and lawsuits and to financially support our fight against a CSSD “restructuring.” Local 2401 has been forced to defend itself and to spend its limited money to protect our members. Our local receives only $3.52 per member each month. Without any financial support from District Council 20, we have stood up to the government at a great cost to the Local. We have filed a lawsuit in federal court and defeated the District’s motion to dismiss our case, forced the D.C. Attorney General’s office to reverse privatization of child support jobs, cancel a $5 million private contract and defended our members in two critical arbitrations. We members of Local 2401 demand that District 20 reimburse Local 2401 for expenditures that it has incurred in litigation, arbitration, and grievances on behalf of our members. We demand that any future dues District Council 20 collects from Local 2401 be deposited in a separate escrow account for our legal defense until our concerns can be addressed.
