About Us: We are the Social Democratic Party (SDP), a dedicated group of individuals committed to improving the lives of our community members in Wimborne Minster and Corfe Mullen. Our focus is on advocating for practical solutions that enhance safety and convenience for our residents.
The Issue: The picturesque Julian’s Bridge, connecting Wimborne Minster and Corfe Mullen, stands as an iconic structure in our area. However, it has long been lacking a crucial element - a pedestrian foot bridge. Currently, the only option for pedestrians to cross the Stour River is by using the same route as vehicular traffic, posing significant safety concerns.
The Impact: The absence of a dedicated pedestrian foot bridge has led to safety risks for our residents, especially for those who prefer walking or cycling. It also discourages the use of eco-friendly modes of transportation, contributing to unnecessary car use.
Our Mission: The SDP is dedicated to addressing this issue and advocating for the construction of a pedestrian foot bridge on Julian's Bridge. Our aim is to ensure the safety and convenience of our residents while promoting alternatives to car travel.
Join Us in Making a Difference: If you share our vision of a safer and more accessible Wimborne Minster and Corfe Mullen, we invite you to become a member of the SDP. Your support will help us amplify our voice and work towards practical solutions that benefit our community.

I absolutely agree that there should be a pedestrian bridge here, we often walk this way with our children, and in the summer with events such as vDub at the pub, it is really scary crossing with the children as traffic is even heavier.. it is shocking that nothing has been built here for the safety of pedestrians!
I was a resident in Wimborne for many years and still cycle and walk in the Wimborne area. I find crossing the bridge very scary both by foot and bike. I now avoid that route which is a shame as the area is lovely, but it is just too dangerous.
The wife and I sometimes walk into Wimborne but we don't say "shall we walk into Wimborne" .......... we always say " Shall we run the gauntlet" which at 70 years old can be very daunting. You can see the scratches on the bridge where cars and lorries have hit ... one day that will be a person that was hit.
Excellent idea. When using the bridge in a car I always think how dangerous it must feel if you were using it as a pedestrian, so scary. It is not very wide so a pedestrian would reduce the road to one lane. In a car you have to give way to large vehicles approaching you before entering. Thank you for this petition. A wonderful plan.
This is definitely needed...crossing the bridge on foot is like taking your life in your hands. They have a fabulous footbridge next to Canford Bridge so why not here? It's just as busy.
Much needed improvement for walkers and cyclists
The infrastructure just isn't suitable now, particularly with more cars on the road and more houses close by. It's about time this simple request was taken into account and provide a suitable walk way across the bridge. It's outrageous that we abide by so many flaky H and S laws but this footpath needs a petition to be considered for install. Lets be sensible and install the bridge.

This section of the road is so dangerous for pedestrians. There is no safe walking route for Corfe Mullen children to get to QE school
