REQUEST FOR A NEW CROSSING ON ST JOHN’S ROAD - BUXTON

Go straight to Sign The Petition

What are we looking for -

A number of local residents have expressed strong views about the need for a new crossing on St John's Road, preferably adjacent to Broomsway passage. This would allow safer access to Macclesfield Road and ultimately access to Burbage Primary School for parents and children. With no current safe access across the road, local parents and children along with elderly and disabled residents, are finding it very difficult to cross St John's Road safely. This is increasingly difficult due to the volume and speed of the traffic driving up and down heading towards and out of town.

A new safety crossing would drastically reduce the risk to parents, children and other local residents when crossing this increasingly busy road. Therefore, your support in addressing this opportunity is extremely important in order to gain the approval for the funds to carry out this essential work.

Why your support is required -

This petition has been drawn up to 'formally demonstrate' the strong feeling from residents, which verbally, has been extremely positive to date. We will then be able to show the Borough and County Council that we are serious about the requirement to carry out an investigation for a new crossing. With this approach, we can then ask for the Highways Department to carry out a survey for the most efficient and safest way to protect local residents. This request is now gaining momentum and a number of actions are now underway. You can see how we have started the process on the 'Blog Page' or click the tab at the top of this page.

If you agree and feel that this crossing is important to the local area and you are happy to support this petition, then simply fill in the 3 boxes below. Your details will remain totally confidential and will not be used for any other purpose than to show your support for this action. You can also see who else has signed this petition on the 'Signatures Page' or again, just click the tab at the top of this page.

Updates

February 28, 2012

The level of tangible interest in this project has surpassed my initial expectations. It is clear that the lack of safe passage on St John’s Road is a pressing concern for our community. We are now in a stronger position to present these concerns to the local authorities.

The speed people drive down St Johns is shocking. Its dangerous for the elderly trying to get to the shops and even worse for the school run.

Too much traffic. If you want people to walk to burbage then make it safe for them.

Its a nightmare getting the kids to school. Cars go way too fast down that road and nobody slows down for pedestrians. We need something done now.
