"They Paved Paradise And Put Up A Parking Lot" famous words by Joni Mitchell. We live here, we are frustrated, and it is the citizens and our environment that suffer from the extensive apartment development and gridlock traffic as a result.

Please join me and 125 others who have signed a petition for an Apartment Moratorium for James Island. We need time to strategically plan for organized growth.

I, the undersigned, petition that the City of Charleston, City of Charleston Planning Department, and City Council pass an ordinance that will function as an APARTMENTS MORATORIUM for James Island; that would attach to any property on James Island, regardless of zoning, currently in the City of Charleston from the date forward April 1,2017.

Over 600 apartments have been built on James Island as of March 2017, with another 700+ apartments already approved or seeking approval for construction.

Thank you for you consideration of this APARTMENTS MORATORIUM FOR JAMES ISLAND for a period of 2 years, to enable the Camp/Folly intersection improvements to be accomplished, along with other intersection improvements on James Island, in addition to sidewalk projects to be completed, and the preservation of green-spaces to be established.

Let's Save James Island!!! It CAN be done! We need YOU!

Seeing one hundred people attach their names to this cause reinforces my belief that our community recognizes the need for a thoughtful pause in development. This initial milestone confirms that many of you share the same concerns about our infrastructure and our island's future.

I moved to James Island from Long Island, NY because it seemed cozy, had light traffic and like a good place to retire. Traffic has increased at least 5 fold since my move 4 years ago. High density housing will only make things worse.

Mass development with lack of infrastructure support is POOR management and planning. Who ever is responsible should be removed from office and have to drive 5 miles on Folly Road leaving JI at 7:30 am and returning to JI at 4:30 pm weekdays for 2 years

James island can not handle another high density housing complex. It isn't just about the structure. This will lead to our schools being overcrowded. Not to mention our infrastructure isn't any where close to where it needs to be to handle that influx. PLEASE, stop.

I have to care for my baby born last week amidst the noise of the construction you approved for even more multi-family housing units on Stefan Drive. It's already difficult to care for a newborn, but add that awful construction noise?! Shame on you.

I've lived on James Island since 1969 and as the years pass I watch my island disappear into an unrecognizable place , filled with traffic , congestion and limited green space. Please stop the destruction and over development of James Island.

I live in Crosscreek neighborhood and was so sad to see the loss of more trees and more units going up at the Maybank "Gathering" Place. The Standard is a monstrosity and has added nothing to the area but empty, overpriced apartments.
