Almost every community across the nation has a grocery store. Jackson's South Side has not had one in over a decade. We are all Jacksonians. Those who live in Jackson, now...and all of us who live all over the United States. Jackson's South Side was once a thriving community. With Polly's, D&C, Woolworth Pharmacy and the City Bank of Jackson and Black's IGA, both on Prospect Street. It is now a eyesore with Family Dollar as an anchor. Dollar General is just across the street. Making individuals pay ridiculous prices for basic food items like milk and bread. The South Side of Jackson has been a close knit family for 60 years. We need a new place to spend our monies on our side of town. We should not have to travel by bus, because times are difficult and with no car, are forced to ride to the North Side, West Side and East Side to Krogers, Polly's, Save-A-Lot, Walmart, Aldi's and Miejers. We walk to the Dollar stores and if blessed to have a car, spending gas monies to traveling to the other sides of town. Sign this petition today and stand up for our community, Jackson's South Side. There will be an official "Jackson South Side Rebirth" beginning on Friday, March 13, 2013 at the United Peoples Community Church, 1500 S. Milwaukee St, and Host Pastor, Reverend Billy R. Pierce, Jr. Reverend Pierce has taken the lead on this project for Jackson's South Side. It will be a 3 to 5 year project, including another 5 years for the changing of street names, working with the City of Jackson and the South Side Minister's Alliance.
