Rt. 51 in Allegany County Maryland from the Cumberland City Limits to PPG Road has become one of the most dangerous highways in the Tri-state Area to drive. The stretch of highway was constructed in the late 1980's to provide better access to the Industrial Park in Mexico Farms. Since its construction the traffic has increased dramatically while safety concerns with the 55mph speed limit, the intersections of Messick Rd, Uhl Hwy, Blue Valley Rd, Mexico Farms Rd and PPG Rd have been left unaddressed by the Maryland State Highway Administration. Accidents continue to rise while the Maryland State Highway Administration uses flawed and inaccurate statistics to continue to deny that there is a public safety problem for those working and living along Rt 51. Its time that the Maryland Highway Administration lowers the maximum speed of 55mph to a safer speed and also installs traffic lights a Messick Rd, Mexico Farms Rd and PPG Rd.
