The federal government of Nigeria should revisit the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC). The students of the country are requesting that the scheme is scraped or they increase the amount they recieve as allowance.
The students recall that the amount for the NYSC allowance was as at the time the currency was much stronger in the foreign market. Graduate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria now live under $5 daily which includes their transport and housing.
Some states have also stopped paying NYSC menbers and still want them to serve under zero welfarism.
This petitition is filed for the Federal government of Nigeria to revisit the scheme and either increase the allowances to a reasonable amount or scrap the scheme. Serving the nation should be with zeal and promote development not increase poverty rate and promoting underdevelopment.

What is the benefit of serving my nation when i will remain poor receiving the same amount the corp members received 5 years ago as allowance. Dollar is now N380, PMS at N145 and they will give us N1,500 as transport allowance when the least transport is from N4,000 and above. They cannot scrap it because it has provided job opportunity for the nysc staffs but they should review the allowance. If national assembly members are serving the country and receiving that much, they should consider us that are being forced to serve the country.
What is the point of the service if the corp member have to still ask their parents for feeding and transport allowance. They should increase the pay and let the services continue, its an awesome experience but welfare is the big challenge.
Corpers are dying, some have been victims of kidnapping, death during fight outbreaks, kwara state, for example, all for WHAT? Stipends! #660 per day. ##IncreasePayOrScrapNysc
What will a graduate do with N19, 800 when they could start thier own job and earn more. Even a trader by the road side earn more than that monthly. Why then is education the best legacy
The purpose of this scheme is to empower the youth but when they serve and thier welfare becomes notjing to the government, then thete is need for such scheme to go on exile. There are options, they should increase the allowance or let the youth go straight to the labour market after thier school.

I totally support the idea... Niger state does not pay corpers any longer... How do we cope in this harsh economy???
