# iCleanBeauBassin #iCleanMauritius
Mauritius is our own Country – Don't we have a role in cleaning it up?
The ugly truth is that there are garbage-littered streets everywhere, stray dogs and wild cats are roaming freely and frankly there is no awareness to keep our environment clean.
I live in Beau-Bassin and each Tuesday the scavengers are supposed to come and clean the lane. Sometimes they come, sometimes not and even
if they do come there is no fixed hour.
They even come at 4am in the morning! We clean our lawn and surroundings
every day and still we see people littering the street again without a care and
there is dog filth. Talking to neighbours is falling on deaf eyes and everyone is refusing to take up their responsibility.
At the back of my house there is a wasteland that has not been clean up in years and seems to be a breeding place for mosquitoes. This may cause a dengue fever outbreak in the neighbourhood but no action is being taken to remedy the situation, despite of our protests being voiced out several times.
The Beau-Bassin /Rose-hill Township is provided with a decent sewage system, except for the Belvedere Lane, in which I stay. We have addressed a petition to the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities two months back with respect to same but no reply has been received till date.
What is the municipality doing? It's high time for them to clean up their act!
We are all in this together. We need to solve it together!
I am sure I am not the only one facing such problems and I invite you to add the hashtag #iCleanMauritius to your tweets and share your pictures of your environment as well.
Please help me in spreading awareness to people and show us
your support by signing this petition so that we can make our voices heard by the authorities!
