Hastings Borough Council has a duty to keep our streets clean, clear of litter, refuse and dog mess.

We the undersigned are calling on the council to do more to keep the streets of Hastings and St Leonards clean and tidy and within a timely manner, in accordance with the Litter Code of Practice under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Whether it is communal bins, persistent fly-tipping or dog mess issues - the council must act now and urgently. Working closer with our waste partners to ensure household refuse that is collected is done so properly, on time and regularly, alongside pushing for improvements within the street cleaning team.

The filth piling up on our sidewalks is a direct result of the council refusing to do their jobs. I am tired of seeing the excuses while the streets remain an absolute disgrace to our community.

The massive surge in support proves that residents are done with Hastings Borough Council ignoring our rotting streets. Our momentum is forcing their hand and they cannot hide from this mess anymore.

Residents huge part of problem. Collections good. Bins themselves never seem to me washed out getting smellier and smellier and more and more stained. Inner bins that came originally now seem to be 10 year old bins etc. Rear has disappeared outside 12 Carisbrooke and has not been replaced in months.

I live on the seafront near Warrior Square. Outside my front door are cigarette ends, cans, wrappers and sticky trails from "fizzy" drinks. This is every day and considering all visitors to the town walk the seafront this does not give a good impression. Does anyone from the council ever walk the seafront? It's shabby and ill kept. Walk the Bexhill seafront and see the difference. Does anyone really care?

The streets are very much lacking in cleaning, especially in the Bohemia area. I have asked Cllr Cartwright for 2 years to improve this but to no avail.

The worst place I know for these issues. Workers at the council pretty much admit they have lost control over Kier. Have taken to clearing litter in Warrior Square ourselves as we lost heart. We are told issues have been resolved when they clearlyhaven't.

It's clear that a lot of resources go into keeping Hastings and St. Leonards tidy but there are certainly massive failings by the contractor (Kier), HBC and, importantly, residents. All should be working together. There are plenty of residents that need to be tackled for their persistent and inconsiderate littering, fly tipping and failure to clean up dogs mess. Money saved could be spent elsewhere. It's all our responsibility and I regularly have 'words' with people. HBC shouldn't be expected to clear up after everyone, but they could do more enforcement. As always it takes only takes a few to make a big mess! Issuing parking tickets seems more of a priority!

I live and work in the town centre, I don't want to have to see this on my way to and from work. Nor do tourists or customers shopping in the town.

HBC seem quite incapable of keeping the streets of our town clean... Street cleaning and rubbish collection are two of the most basic services any half competent should be able to provide successfully... but not ours, sadly.

Magdalen road is an absolute disgrace. The problem is because of residents who are lazy and dont care about all the filth and rubbish on the street, the council who literally ignore which l have witnessed, and comllete apathy abiut where we live. I have a small dog and would never leave his poo on the pavement or anywhere else, laactually carry extra bags and pick up other dogs poo when l see because l can't bear to see it, all because certain people dont care. have some pride people clean up your rubbish, and council how about supplying a decent serviced that we pay for in our council tax each month.
