We have created the following petition inviting individuals and organisations to sign it as a call for national action towards a cleaner Kenya. The Dream of a litter-free Kenya starts with your signature.

HERE IS WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT

Every year, national and local authorities spend billions of shillings cleaning Kenyan cities, towns, rivers and lakes. While the duty to do so is enshrined in the basic concept that businesses and individuals pay taxes that mandate the authorities to ensure a safe and cleaner environment, ultimately this responsibility also lie with individuals, communities and organizations who form part of our country’s ecosystem.

A hygienic and beautiful environment can play an important role in the building of a nation. This is especially if individuals and communities make a particular effort to play their role in maintaining high quality local environments. Citizens can develop a sense of community pride in their efforts to clean their neighbourhoods and this can eventually become a metaphor for what we all can do in all things to Clean up Kenya - whether it is by denouncing simple anti-social habits of littering or major challenges that bedevil our nation.

Whether you are a Kenyan citizen or not, an organisation operating in Kenya or not, or even a government agency or environmentalist, you can help our work to empower the dream of a litter-free Kenya with your signature.

By signing this petition, you pledge to the high ideals of a cleaner Kenya by committing to FOUR simple principles;

  1. Not to litter,
  2. To dispose off waste legally,
  3. To promote and support public awareness for a cleaner Kenya, and
  4. To participate in and support any cleanup activities organized in our communities

As a long time Kenyan resident, this is one of the most distressing things about this country. If we ALL saw it as our responsibility to pick up 5 - 10 pieces of public trash daily, Kenya would soon be the beautiful country it could be!

Hae,am a teacher by profession and live in Kagio town of kirinyaga.all parts of the town are seriously littered with plastic bags,pampers,women sanitary towels,plastic bottles,broken n unbroken glass bottles,raw sewage etc etc.the problem is no cares.i personaly on weekly basis volunteer to manage the litter in my neighbourhood.This is a good forum and I believe educating the public would lower to less than halve the postmanagement cost.i would be willing to engage in part time or voluntary basis ,activities that would make our neighbourhood clean n free of diseases.Thankyou.

Dear Friends and Supporters of Clean Up Kenya, We want to thank you all for signing our petition to draw attention to Kenya's litter crisis. We have however noticed that some petitioners are having trouble signing because of browser issues especially with mobile devices. We have since launched a similar petition on https://www.change.org/p/kenya-s-litter-problem-continues-to-grow-because-of-our-actions-act-now-to-stop-this and are asking those who have signed to go to this link and sign again. It will only take you 30 seconds. Will you do it right now please? With thanks, Betterman Simidi Musasia Clean Up Kenya

The Eastlands area is the most littered. This is a way the people of the area can see a change in their environment
