When some people are not taught as children to honor all life, then they do not see anything wrong with killing little creatures. Children look up to parents,teachers, mayors, and firefighters for protection and help... not to do harm. If firefighters are endorsing the killing of squirrels, then children see a squirrel hunt as a game. They do not understand the consequences of shooting.... that the squirrel or bird or person is dead. They do not understand the suffering they are causing to harmless beings.
PLEASE, isnt it time to STOP the KILLING on our planet? Has it ever solved anything? NO!
People of HOLLEY, Firefighters, Mayor Kenney, mothers of children, PLEASE teach your children to shoot a camera not a gun! Have an event that offers prizes for the best photo shoot.... not the biggest dead squirrel! PLEASE you CAN end this event and begin a healthy one... a happy photo shoot that will LET THE LITTLE SQUIRRELS OF HOLLEY LIVE!

I am honestly overwhelmed by the response this has received because I never imagined so many people would join me in this call for kindness. This momentum belongs entirely to you and I am just humbled to be a part of the shift you are creating.

I really never expected so many people to feel just as deeply about this as I do. Reading your comments about teaching kindness to our children has been truly moving and I am so grateful you are here with me.

This is so backwards. Teaching kids to hunt squirrels for fun is just wrong in this day and age. Find a better way to raise money.
My kids would be horrified. Can we please stop acting like killing for sport is a normal town event???
Enough with the squirrel hunts. It reflects so poorly on the town.
Disgusting. Why do we keep celebrating violence like this?
Total insanity. Firefighters should be protecting life not taking it for a trophy. SHAMEFUL.

A photo contest is a great idea. At least then the kids learn something useful instead of just how to kill things.
