On January 18th, 2018 I received a warning on my door from Balfour Beatty stating that rabbits are not allowed on base and that I will need to rehome our very loved rabbit. I would like to state that I was unaware that rabbits were not allowed on base. I am one who has always followed the rules. When we moved in my husband did the lease while I took care of my two kids. I had nothing to do with the lease. Less than 2 weeks later, my husband deployed, he put the lease somewhere, so I never read it.

When I rescued out rabbit, Lola, it did not cross my mind on if she was allowed on base or not, because if dogs, cats, fish and birds are allowed on base (fish and birds are exotic animals, pet rabbits are not) then why not a harmless rabbit? All the animals that are allowed on base do more harm than a small rabbit will. In fact, rabbits are the third most popular pet in America. Simply because they are well trained, very clean, litter box trained, quiet, and very therapeutic.

Lola has not once chewed on anything, she is litter boxed trained, does not have accidents (and if she did, rabbit feces is completely different than cat or dog feces. It has no smell and can be vacuumed up). Lola would much rather lay down on our couch and do no harm to anyone or anything. In fact, lola is here to provide myself and my children emotional support while my husband is away and with everyday life struggles. Lola has given us happiness, love, support and a sense of comfort at the end of a lonely and anxiety filled day. She senses when I am feeling uneasy and she will not leave my side, please help us by signing this petition to help us be heard and to make them rethink about taking away lola from myself and my children! Thank you so much!
