The state and local agencies have finally committed the funding to dredge the channel. I am drained from this fight but the inlet will be navigable again soon. Keep watch to ensure the work actually begins on the water.

Final supporters
The process has changed in the maintenance of shallow water inlets like the Lockwood Folly that separates Holden Beach and Oak Island. The Inlet is a extremely important public resource economically, environmentally and ocean water rescue wise. Boater registration went up in 2016 and money by the state is being set aside for this. The state will put up 2x what the county designates to this cause. To get support from our government agencies at the county, local and state level we need all the signatures and comments we can collect. The inlet is now very dangerous and recent surveys shows outer bar 2ft at high tide. . Please join us in signing this petition to have Brunswick County, Holden Beach, Oak Island and the State of North Carolina to allocate funds to dredge a navigable channel.

We hit one thousand signatures today. It has been a long and draining road to pull this much attention to the state of the inlet. I am exhausted by the lack of action so far but seeing this many people acknowledge the danger keeps me moving forward.

The sand is shifting and the water is getting shallower by the day. We are within reach of the first hundred signatures but the progress feels slow and difficult. Please send this link to others who rely on this channel so we can prove this is a priority before the inlet closes entirely.

As a resident of Riverside near Varnamtown, I know the importance of keeping the Lockwood River open for all river traffic. Our Varnamtown fisheries depend upon this and dredging needs to happen. I hope that our government will listen and get the water flowing at a safe level!
We have had to use that inlet several times when the weather gets rough to come back in instead of having to motor another eight or 10 miles to the next and it has probably saved our life at some point in time in the past By us being able to do so !
Closing this inlet would be jeopardizing life's when water rescues are needed. Especially on the eastern end of Holden Beach and all of Oak Island. Not to mention the recreational and commercial fishing industry that uses this inlet daily.
When the Cape Fear River is too rough for smaller boats, the Lockwood is the only way in or out. Last time I used the Lockwood, I had to surf a wave in my 21 footer. Had to maintain enough throttle to keep the wave wash out of my stern. Not fun.
I use Blue Pointe Marina multiple time a year staying in their motel and renting a slip mainly because Lockwood Folly inlet is so close. I would hate to see Blue Pointe or any other small businesses I the area suffer due to not funding dredging of the inlet

I consider dredging of the inlet a critical factor in selecting Holden Beach as a vacation destination. If i cannot take my 27 foot fishing boat to the ocean through the Lockwood Folly inlet I will take my $10,000 vacation spend to a more convenient location.
