WE, the People of Vashon Island and its visitors, would like some form of action taken, to mitigate the negative effects of the yearly event, Motorcycle Day. Although, it is an organized event by the Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts, there is inadequate prior notice , on roads , ferries and public areas. There is no warning posted of the impact , that 1000-2000 loud motorcycles, could have to Vashon on one day. WE, are asking, that we be given a week notification prior to the event , including what to expect. Newspapers, road signs , posters and our radio station can carry this information. WE are asking there would be adequate police supervision , especially in town, to monitor noise decibel levels and seek accordance with King County noise Ordinance 14114, section 10b http://www.mrsc.org/ords/k5o14114.pdf, assess the number of motorcycles and parking , control traffic congestion , monitor drunk driving ( bars were open) and assist persons in distress from prolonged exposure to very intense, loud noise. WE, are NOT asking that this tradition be banished, but that it be properly permitted , so that we may have increased police patrols and that the levels of noise be tolerable. WE, would request, that Sunday be exempted, keeping it as a quiet day of worship. Other days would be more appropriate. WE, ask that there be a review, by the City Council or appropriate body, of the "poker" course routes, and that areas with protected wildlife or horses, be restricted from large group runs of motorcycles or those with chopped pipes. WE , ask, for peace and serious consideration for this petition as addresses a public health and safety issue. Above ALL, we seek recourse and relief from the suffering this day brings us.
