recently at sandwich high school the boys have been told they cannot wear headbands because since they are boys, it is gang related. Girls can still continue to wear them because since they are girls it is only for their hair, and not anything including gangs. Although it is small, we want equality for all our students and what they wear. Please sign this petition if you agree that ALL students, no matter their gender, can wear the same headbands.

I've been a part of sandwich school district both as a student and a parent. I believe the school district is correct that the headbands can signify gang relation, however what the school is neglecting to realize is females can be just as much a part of a gang as males. I see no reason why anyone needs to wear headbands. If they need to keep their hair back put it in a ponytail

You can't have it both ways either it is a hair accessory or its not. Make up your minds either it is or isn't and being sexist about it won't help.

If girls were told they could no longer wear shorts while still allowing boys to wear shorts there would be a riot. STOP THE BIAS

It's ridiculous that boys can't wear headbands!! Boys have long hair, boys sweat on their fe head/hairline!!! If it's not a gang related color, then who cares if a boy wears a headband/sweatband!!

I believe in equality for everyone. From my experience at the school, the authorities seemed to use their "power" to start fights that aren't even required. They should be more worried about saftey. Wearing a headband does not, in any way, affect anyone's saftey. Headbands are HARMLESS. Please show me the ny activity in Sandwich that you claim is an issue.

I think it is sexist and unfair for the school to tell boys to not wear head/hairbands. If a girl can wear one then why can't boys? Just because a boy has on a head/hairband doesn't mean that they are in a gang. For all the faculty of SHS knows, they could be supporting other causes to help people.

I don't attend Sandwich high school (Yorkville), but I think this rule is totally bizarre!
