The bureaucrats at DEFRA finally backed down and the school fences are staying right where they belong. Keeping our children safe from unauthorized access was the only acceptable outcome and these 525 signatures made it impossible for them to ignore us. Stay sharp because we need to make sure they …
Like us I'm sure you thought the safety of our/your children would be at the top of everyone's priority list.
Not so.
We're very fortunate in Helmshore that not only do we live in a village surrounded by the beautiful West Pennine moors but we have an outstanding local primary school.
We need your help, however.
Recently, DEFRA have designated 3 public footpaths across the school playing field following a campaign by a number of local residents and refused an application to have them re-routed, requiring the school fences to be removed in 3 places.
The children at Helmshore Primary School need the footpaths to be re-routed to enable them to enjoy full use of the school field free from broken glass, dog faeces and other potential hazards but most importantly the fences prevent unauthorised access to the school premises by strangers.
School should be a safe environment not one where unauthorised intrusion becomes a real threat.
Not everyone cares about the safety of Helmshore children but we know that YOU DO.
Please support Helmshore Community Safeguarding Helmshore Children, Helmshore Primary School, Lancashire County Council and most importantly the children of Helmshore by signing our petition.
DEFRA is gambling with our children's safety by forcing these fences down and we need to hit 500 signatures to show them we aren't backing off. Send this link to everyone you know right now because the bureaucrats at the council think they can ignore us if we stay quiet.

Ridiculous decision. Safety has to come first, for goodness sake. Leave the fences alone.

School grounds are for pupils. Not a public shortcut. Keep our kids safe.

Think of the children! My kids go here and I dont want random people just wandering across the grass while they are at lunch.

This is completely mental. Why would anyone want strangers walking right through a school field where kids are playing? Keep the fences up.

Unbelievable. Kids deserve a safe place to play without worrying about outsiders. Fix this now.

Common sense seems to be missing here. Just reroute the paths. It is not exactly rocket science.
