Urge the National Assembly for Wales to commission an independent assessment of the true cost of the Williams Commission’s proposals for local government reorganisation; Reject the Williams Commission’s proposals to merge the Vale of Glamorgan with Cardiff council; Consider the Vale of Glamorgan to be a viable and successful local authority which should remain in its present form.

Anyone who can remember the old South Glamorgan days when Cardiff took ALL the money for the Bay development and left Barry and the rest of the Vale waste away MUST surely oppose rejoining with Cardiff!
It would be a real shame to see a beautiful rural area and a successful local authority like the Vale losing its character by being swallowed by Cardiff.
Due to the difference in size between the two authorities this would be a take over rather than a merger. I am not convinced that this would result in savings but I am sure the residents in the Vale would suffer with poorer services.
Bigger is not better nor cheaper. We need to see how 'savings' are calculated and benefits to both councils assessed.
Decisions should be taken as locally as possible, as a Cardiff resident i can see that the Vale would come off worse in any merger.

We have out identity I appreciate the cost saving s in the long run but maybe a merge in the other direction such as Bridgend if necessary to merge with someone the demography and social economic dynamics of this area match vogcc far better than the metropolis called cardiff
