Say “No” to the proposed move of Academy of Alameda (AOA) Elementary School to

Henry Haight Elementary School Campus

We, the undersigned, demand that the Alameda Unified School District’s (AUSD) stop plans and proposals to establish the newly expanded Academy of Alameda Elementary School (AOA) on the Henry Haight Elementary School campus.

We believe this move would negatively impact our students and our community and it is not equitable to put the burden of this policy on the backs of Title 1 students.

Henry Haight Elementary is at capacity with our current enrollment and this plan would displace and dismantle important programs for our school community including ELD and Special Ed classes. Henry Haight received a Title 1 Achievement Award as a result of the important program and services we provide to Haight students. We are proud to serve a diverse student body and to provide excellent special education services as well as serving the educational needs of new English speakers. To co-locate another school on our campus would place an undue hardship on our students, teachers and community.

We hereby request that the AUSD and AOA find other alternatives to co-location on Henry Haight Elementary School. Please respect and support our ability to continue to serve our diverse and growing community. Respectfully,

I agree with Ms. Proctors comments. Disrupting EL & SPED programs as identified in the AUSD presentation does not support the students. And AOA requested space on the Chipman site. This is the same situation NEA faced and look how many times those students were moved, disrupting both school programs involved. Lets think more than one step ahead in the future this time.

Stop using Haight School as a dumping ground for all the crazy ideas for the district. One year we're over run with kindergarteners. Years past we're sharing portable spaces as offices and the district keeps piling kids on our campus. There's not enough room to turn around. Find another site or reconstruct one. Build one. Stop running us out of our school zone without any consideration to our needs. There are other schools to utilize.

Displacing adult education classes to keep the new school together is more effective and prudent than displacing Henry Haight's most vulnerable population. Please recognize and support the good work Henry Haihht is doing; do the right thing for the children.

AoA has should be able to find the space on their current campus and more importantly, the Adult school should not be co-mingled w/ a Middle school!!!

I think this is a horrible idea. One of the reasons that Henry Haight is a good school is the services that they offer to students. Taking away resources will impact the students in a negative way. There must be another solution to this problem.

At a time when Henry Haight is excelling and providing vital resource services to in need students, why on earth would the school board work against the interests of at risk students and allow for something like this. There are plenty of empty spaces in Alameda that can be utilized for this charter school - to take away space at Haight is not only incredibly short sighted but also could impede the progress the school has made.

It is easier for adult to relocate rather than having children, parents and teachers rearrange a program that is already been well stablished.
