Iain Duncan Smith proposes introducing a flat rate old age pension of at least £155 a week to come into effect in 2015 or 2016. Whilst this is welcome news for pensioners of the future this move will not include existing pensioners today. Why not? This is the post -war generation who over the years have contributed most and who have been brought up to be ultra careful with money and resources! - the generation who have uncomplainingly raised their families without the cushioning of government credits and top-ups and in many cases too proud to apply for possible entitlements so beloved of the present day; also many of whom are still working to supplement the meagre state pension they receive! Why are they to be missed out? They are the proud and independent face of Great Britain at its best! Is this their reward?
