Graduation is something every senior looks forward to. Unfortunately, the joy is being stripped from the Gilmer High School Graduating Class of 2016. The purpose of this postpone reconstruction of the football field until after graduation. We do realize that if it is postponed, it wouldn't be ready for football season. But what is more important? Recognizing the hard work of a graduating class and the education they've gained or a Friday night football game? If the field isn't done by football season, the high school could use CCMS's field for home games. Also, we could postpone the construction until after the football season has ended. This would give them November 2016 until May of 2017 to construct the new field which is definitely more than enough time. Ultimately, we've all labored for 12-13 years for this day and we deserve to be recognized for it the best way possible. We can't let the RE16N end this way.
**DISCLAIMER**
Just for clarification, if we do not have graduation on the field, we are still having a graduation. It would just mean a lower quality graduation with a small number of family members. We would have to pick and choose which family member or friend gets to see us walk which would be incredibly difficult to do. But nevertheless, the board isn't taking away graduation, just lowering the quality of it so that this new football field can be constructed.

It's hard to teach a child that academics come first before anything else when things like this take priority. Does the stadium need an update? Yes, but let's do it in a more correct time and manner. Give these kids their graduation first.
This decision is so unfair to these students that have worked hard and earned their chance to walk in graduation on the football field like all seniors from the past. Forcing families to pick and choose friends and family to attend isn't fair to these students.
This is crazy. Growing up we dreamt of graduating on the field. When my sister graduated they had it in the gym and she felt terrible that she had to pick and choose who got to see her walk. They should start construction the day after graduation.
My graduation was in the gym! #2007. Cancelling graduation for a football field makeover???? This is the dumbest thing I'VE ever seen from a school. Yes, let's tell the youth that graduating is not as important as football games.
Everyone of those young adults have worked hard to reach their graduation and they deserve their ceremony on time. Football can be played elsewhere until new field is ready or start construction after graduation ceremony
This is a once in a lifetime moment that should be spent where they want. Asking for it to be the field some have invested countless hours into isn't asking much, from my perspective.
It isn't fair that a Graduate has to pick who will attend their ceremony. One have LARGE families that are very proud. And we would all like to attend.

When my granddaughter first told me of the change of venue of graduation and how upset she was, I suggested a petition. Glad to see someone took the initiative, now if only the BOE listens, if not graduates, STRIKE. DONT SHOW UP. STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS. YOU. DESERVE THIS
