An Open Letter to The Honorable Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York City

Mayor Bill de Blasio

City Hall

New York, NY 10007

Dear Honorable Mayor Bill de Blasio,

I am writing to you today to kindly request that you relocate the Free Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer Pride Day Street Fair to Hudson Street in the West Village, Greenwich Village on Sunday 24 June 2018.

I am writing to you today to kindly request that you redirect the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer Pride March to begin at East 37th Street and 5th Avenue and proceed South and West to Christopher Street and Greenwich Street in the West Village, Greenwich Village on Sunday 24 June 2018.

In order to provide the most Festive, All Inclusive, Safe, Accessible, Celebratory Day for all attendees, march participants and viewers, I ask that you visit Hudson Street where you will find a newly renovated 52 feet wide roadway from Bethune Street to West 14th Street, a most appropriate home for such an event as the Free L.G.B.T.Q. Pride Day Street Fair.

Thank you in advance for your kind consideration of my request.

All best regards,

Nathaniel A. Siegel

New York City

PS: I have posted this Open Letter to ipetition to provide an opportunity for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Queer people and their friends to express their individual wishes that together we all GO WEST ! on 24 June 2018 to Christopher Street our historic West Village, Greenwich Village home.

There's no place like home ! I am wishing a Safe and Happy Pride to All !

This ipetition is dedicated to the Lovers who met each other at Gay Pride from 1969 to forever.

Updates

June 20, 2018

The feedback from our community confirms that the West Village is the only logical home for our historic march. I am currently coordinating with local officials to ensure this proposal reaches the right desks before the planning committees finalize their routes. Email your city council representative today and demand that they support this relocation.

The momentum for our move to the West Village is growing fast. Post the petition link to your Facebook timeline and email your local representative today to demand this change.

I live in the west village and every year I look forward to the parade. Friends of mine enjoy coming to the village to end the parade and we support local shops near by. I don’t want to see this leave the area. Gay friends of mine look forward to being in the village for the parade. Taking it away from the village would be a real shame.

After 34 years of marching down 5th ave to the west village I see no reason to change the route. Can you please give the people an explanation...TY.

One more Attempt to wipe history from the pages of NYCs gay movement. So we people forget how nypd raised, arrested & beat up people for who they are. Shame on everyone involved.

What is Pride without throngs tightly packed on enthusiastic Village streets? Nothing I say, Nothing! The lively urban jam is the stuff that New York City life is made of. "Dispersal Areas" = Death.

Nathaniel Siegel has made a great argument for rerouting the Gay Pride Parade. As one of the original marchers in the first march, in June of 1970, I agree with what he is saying.

The parade should end in the Village where the fight for our rights began!
