The production and sale of all potatoes in Western Australia is currently regulated/controlled by a state government organisation. This board is staffed by public servants who control every facet of the local potato industry and determines who grows what variety of potatoes and where, who can sell them, where they can be sold and at what price. If any grower or wholesale or retail seller does not comply with the rules enforced by the Potato Marketing Corporation (PMC) they can be prosecuted and/or fined and permanently locked out of the industry The petition is looking for signatures of people who agree the market should be a free market (de-regulated)so that everyone can have cheaper, better quality and a greater variety of potatoes
